Purpose: CFD.EXE - The BroadJump Client Foundation is used by several cable and DSL providers. It collects registration data and allows the company's technical support staff to make changes to your system. (BroadJump was acquired by Motive in January 2003.) Given the privacy implications, you may want to uninstall BroadJump through Control Panel | Add/Remove (if you have an entry for it) or use MSConfig to stop CFD.EXE from starting. On the other hand, if you are a novice user and often require the help of your ISP's support line, leave this running but be aware of the privacy implications.

Also, your use of the Licensed Software may modify Internet related software settings on your computer and will set networking configuration parameters on your computer. ... you are granting BroadJump and SBC INTERNET SERVICES the right to collect and use information from your computer and to send information and communications to your computer as BroadJump and/or SBC INTERNET SERVICES deem necessary or appropriate. ... you are waiving the right to bring a claim or lawsuit against BroadJump or SBC INTERNET SERVICES arising out of or relating to BroadJump or SBC INTERNET SERVICES accessing your computer or sending information or communications to your computer.

cfd.exe uses excessive system and memory resources with no corresponding benefit. Applications such as these should be disabled to improve overall system performance.
