cisvc.exe:

In Windows 2000/XP, the Content Indexing Service (cisvc.exe) maintains an index of the contents of your drive so that searches for content on the drives will be faster. It also starts a cidaemon.exe process for each drive that is being indexed. This activity occurs in background, usually when you are not using your PC. However, it can cause erratic and sometimes alarming disk activity since most people don't expect to see the drive light glowing for long periods of time when they're not at their computer. You may want to turn this service off unless you are frequently searching your drives.

To control the configuration of the Indexing Service, go to Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer Management. Expand the Services and Applications node and select Indexing Service. Here you can set which directories are indexed or perform a query against the index.

To turn the Indexing Service off completely, select Services under the Services and Applications node. Find the Indexing Service on the list and double-click the entry. Click the Stop button, and set the startup type to Manual.

cisvc.exe  is a user invoked program and a normal part of PC operations. No action required.

PC Pitstop recommends WinPatrol Plus for monitoring all of the background activity on your PC. WinPatrol Plus provides an easy to understand descriptions of over 15,000 processes and programs.

MD5 hashes is the way that computers can define the uniqueness of a file. Anti malware vendors frequently use this technique to detect and clean malware. Important Note

A file name alone may not be enough for positive identification. PC Pitstop's Overdrive tests and spyware scan use information such as the company name, product name, or install directory.

If you are unable to identify a file, ask about it in our forums after running our full tests.
