I don't know if this contributes to recent slow down of PC or if I simply need to clean up and tweak a few things. I'm doing my best to keep it running first rate ... need to bump the memory a notch too. But of the 5 computers I try my best to keep running, this one is always working ... sometimes barely and by the grace of God, but it has never let me down. Runs slow ... registry needs a massive cleaning ... some of the trash needs to be cleaned ... defrag for sure ... plus there must be a lot of gaps and all sorts of stuff to fix ... this puter is the oldest one I have but so far worth the money. It was an infomercial on TV of all places. Great computer for me though, since I don't mind having to get close and personal with it ... helps me to understand the things better. |

They range from X window development to literary criticism. The case was chipped from stone in 1995. Its most recent CPU is an AMD 2800+. The motherboard is new, its predecessor having succumbed to a mechanical intermittency. It runs XP Pro with stability. There are lots of things I don't know, but I do know when I'm happy. |

Gaming is a little disapointing these days on AGP ATI Radien1650 card. All in all very stable old system for anyone and It will stay as a machine for kids for a few more years. |

I know that all the fix's, Updates and New Programs have affected the responce because 10 years ago you only needed a 450 proccessor and 256 of memory. In todays day's you need an 2.0 processor with 4000mb of memory and who knows what else. |

The first time resulted in increasingly slow running followed by a complete lock-up. The second time resulted in an inabiliity to log online any way, eitgher through Internet Explorer, MSM, Google, etc. The third time, a higher-level technician from Bomgar found and fixed tghe problem. I hope this computer stays problem-free. |

During its 5 year or so lifespan I have had to reinstall Windows perhaps on 3 occasions because the machine has completely seized up. I have suffered from "go slows" on 2/3 occasions, usually resulting from malware. On one of the occasions when the machine completely seized up it was because it had overheated - at the time I lived in a very hot country and the office had no air-conditioning. I haven't answered the questions about speed below as I am not sure. All I know is that I have contracted a package called ADSL 6 Megas. |
