2/21/2013 5:42:41 AM Thank you for reading. Let me assure you that your attention to my difficulty is greatly appreciated. I realize I've provided-- likely-- more text than you expected to see, but I'm afraid the nature of my difficulty with this Lenovo K330-B OEM 8-GB RAM/ 500GB SATA Drive, Core i3 Intel system. Please be patient, as I attempt to explain. Thank you! Still under warranty, [eg. 1-year, OEM], the Lenovo K330B, Intel Core i3, 8GB RAM, 500GB SATA HDD outfitted with Windows 7 Home Premium (my first Win 7 step-up from XP), I purchased from Best-Buy, 2012-06-05, percieving a cost-effective solution for my lifestyle/ vocational endeavors (please, take 10 seconds, review the 3 highlighted activities indicated on my public profile, at http://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffreysabarese ), I found myself relatively pleased with the system, for about a quarter-year, until Windows 7 began to malfunction (e.g. Lost network connectivity for claim of hardware problems; as yet unresolved after trying multiple USB Wi-Fi / WPA2 devices-- fine devices, as proven by other systems with Connectivity via the Linksys WRT160N {wireless-N}, complaining inability to resolve driver/hardware/network/ and-- I believe-- primarily, according to diagnostics, the “Homegroup Permissions” are incorrect, and I've been unable to resolve the extremely frustrating issue. [please bare with my lenthy text, just a moment more...]. Initially, I was dismayed that my existing SATA drives (eg. one existing WinXP install, the system I'm running presently / another 750 GB SATA drive where I desired to install Win XP, for my initial displeasure with Windows 7; when I resolved to swap the OEM 500GB SATA HDD / Win7 drive, with my 750GB drive, where I would perform a fresh WinXP installation, I was utterly confounded to find the system would NOT complete the installation before throwing a dreaded BSOD! I found the same experience with this [presently operating] 160GB SATA / WinXP System [as shipped with a NewEgg, Microstar Intl [aka. MSI 7267 mobo, barebones box] purchased circa 2008, the little WD Caviar 160GB SATA seems never to let me down until this Lenovo K330B threw the BSOD as well {i realize, of course, one must expect malfunction, on swapping an HDD from one sys to another, for all of the drivers, H/W, etc., simply overwhelming the O/S to likely malfuction; crash). FINALLY, I recognized, in the Lenovo BIOS, a setting for the SATA controller, whereby switching from [default, i forget the acronym .. NCSH, perhaps was the default, as I conclude as the source of incompatibility with my attempts to install/ use Windows XP. When I modified the BIOS setting from [that default] to its “IDE” mode option (of three options total, where the third is simply “disabled”). Suddenly, my rugged-old WD Caviar 160GB SATA (inherited from the MSI 7627 Newegg product, and having a "working" XP install) did successfully boot. FURTHERMORE, I have no problems with connectivity here. I admit-- while the Lenovo K330B with Windows 7 64-bit edition ran impresively fast for my experience-- I recognize a noticeable decrease in performance from the 32bit WinXP system, and a few other quirky behaviours which I accept as likely due to the swapping from one MSI to the Lenovo, moreover, the general improvement one should expect from the hype of Win XP and 64-bit technology. In conclusion, NOTE: I can still boot-up, and run the Lenovo OEM 500GB SATA HDD w/ Windows 7, but it's virtually useless for any productivity, for I can not re-establish connectivty. I've tried using the so-called Restore Partition, to return the system to its default configuration [albeit, I've partitioned the 500GB drive, such that-- from OEM, where a singular drive C:-- I added 2 logical partitions, for storage of multimedia and Apache / PHP development, respectively]. I'm concerned-- If I am successful in restoring the Win7 from the so-called, hidden, recovery image [which I've yet to successfully instantiate] what will happen to the extended/ logical partitions? From the shoddy Lenovo help/ guides, etc, if I understand correctly, it will only apply restore operations to what it sees ss the default "C:" partition,-- as I desire, if I am to preserve my HTTP devt. data, and my multi-media. Yes, I am disgusted, having begun to experience this ridiculous performance as early as Nov., 2011, though curiously, I was able to establish network connectivity on the Win7 system, using a USB Wifi adaptor, but as stated above, the Win7 system NOW NEITHER will establsih connectivity with the on-board Intel Ethernet adaptor, NOR as aforementioned, via 3rd-party USB wireless device such irritating workaround is no longer effective as a means of circumventing the malfunctioning onboard Intel Network device. In essence, this $600 Lenovo system from Best-Buy is little more than a new home for my aged system, and I suspect more failure to come. I appreciate any advice you might offer. As I suspect you understand, it is not exactly easy to find the time to waste on a potentially useless service telephone call with Lenovo. When I opened the Lenovo box fro the first time, a bold paper sat atop the contents indicating “Do not return to retailer if problems occur; send directly to Lenovo.” I'm afraid, with the requirement of maintaining client web sites, and authoring NoviceNotes™, I would be forced to face a terrible inconvenience, should I ultimately be required to ship this Lenovo K330B to the OEM manufacturer for diagnostics/ repair. However, I can not simply accept the fact that the system does not work as it should. Again, please offer any advice, telephone numbers, contact personnel, etc., which you believe might be of assistance ot my sistuation. Again, your attention to my difficulty is greatly appreciated. P.S. The internet service provider is Comcast / Xfinity. I believe it's supposed to be 100 Megabits per second. The monthy GB transfer cap is far greater than anything I've ever come close to reaching, and I've downloaded my share of-- uh-- lively lovely ladies, ahem. :-) Enjoy your day, friend. -J Sabarese Author: NoviceNotes.Net Rockstar: http://last.fm/music/jeff+sabarese Developer: CentreWebDesign.net Educator: ChordsAndScales.INFO
